YES! Right now, I invite you to take a breath into your belly, letting the air wash over your heart like a waterfall. And another.
Right now, I invite you to notice any small gratitude you might have: to be able to read or hear these words; for the sun that continues to shine whether or not you can see it; for the breath that moves in and out, in and out of our lungs.
This invitation to the moment is the foundation for the dance practice I call Deva Dancing. Right now. Without having to fix or change anything. Without having to move any particular way. In a safe space with a guide and friends.
In Deva Dancing, there are no steps to learn. There are no rules for how it's supposed to look. There will be music, guidance, invitations, places to focus, encouragement to engage with other movers, practices to help notice the perfection of the moment, and permission to welcome your spirit into the body more fully.
The invitation is to say "YES" to ourselves and deepen into that, whatever it might look like. This doesn't start or stop with the dance floor, but sometimes it's helpful to set aside time and space to meet with others who take interest in this exploration.
I have spent my Deva Dancing time dancing "ugly", dancing "graceful", dancing "open hearted." I've spent time rolling on the floor; time stomping through my anger at the state of the world; time laughing, spinning and skipping through the room.
The emotions, sensations in the body, and thoughts change continually. A constant in this flux can be our willingness to feel, our willingness to say "yes" to whatever this moment might bring -- including any unwillingness, resistance, or fear – to let that be welcome too. We can practice meeting our animating life force directly through the body. Starting right now, as you read these words.
Deva is a Sanskrit word which can be translated as "intelligent agent" or "shining one". Deva also refers to the spiritual forces or beings behind nature. Deva Dancing is the invitation to explore the creative expression of the Truth of who we are. This practice is the fusion and fruition of my movement work, combining presencing exercises with free movement and practices designed to help us feel more comfortable and alive in our bodies.
I invite you to join this moving exploration of the present moment. No experience necessary to participate in these moving explorations, just an opening heart and the willingness to move. In Print: Deva Dancing: Beingness in Motion in March 2008 issue of Aspen Healthy Planet.
Thanks for visiting my website. Thank you Aaron for your assistance (graphic design and installation)!
Opportunities to come and play with me in Western Colorado are listed on the Events page. And you can listen to the radio shows online, no matter where you might be (also listed on the Events page). Please sign up for my e-list so we can keep in touch. I'll let you know about classes and events and other tidbits, including some occasional wisdom. I post about once a month, more if unexpected events come up.
Please contact me if you'd like to bring me to your area for any of these offerings.
It is such a blessing for me to land here in Hotchkiss, CO and really Land. Contemplations of home are swirling through me, what it means, and why it's so important right now. I'm enjoying satsang (official and the unofficial contemplations of truth that pop up in conversation and on long walks), teaching, public radio! and settling. At the family ranch, we've been exploring the wonders of homeade ketsup, applesauce, and other fun treats.
lots of LOVE,Arlyn
